I wanted to tell you about Dixie, she is no longer here, she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last Saturday, but she will always be here in hearts of those who loved her. She was a Boston Terrier, but I do not think she ever considered herself a dog of any kind. She was a full pledged family member who took part in everything possible. I do not know any dog that knew more people or travel more. Her dads have a travel company and she came with them on sales calls and on trips all over the place. She experienced all kinds of fun and loved driving around to new places. Everyone who has met her could not stay indifferent to her charm.
She lived just a few floors from me and I used to bump into her into elevator, she was always so well behaved and full of kisses. Oh yes Miss Dixie had a lot of love, not only for her humans but all the other ones who payed attention to her and appreciated her. I know I will not see her again, sitting proudly in the front seat of the car going on another adventure…I miss her dearly.
When I started my Dog Photography Business Dixie was one of my first models, I needed to shoot some collars and coats for Modern Dog magazine and Dixie happily posed for me. Here is the old post.
I also used her to try our a new lighting and backdrop one day, she was not impressed by that at all!
And here is little love bug with the tongue that licked my face on many, many occasions.
As the years went by I got my Mischa (totally inspired by Dixie’s spot on the back), Dixie, even thou she did not like the other dogs gave Mischa a benefit of a doubt and they played happily quite a few times.
See Mischa’s spot is not quite as big as Dixie’s, but when I saw all the pups, she was the only one with the “rocket” on a back of her neck and I thought I have to have that dog..
As I said despite the age difference, Mischa and Dixie got along. Mischa is super submissive with other dogs so even when Dixie snap a bit she just backed off and there was no problem.
Dixie was loved by everyone in our building, ok maybe not everyone, but for sure the nice people who love dogs. As a matter of fact quite often the neighbours would tell me how well behaved Dixie was, I think on many occasion that was the way to tell me that my dog is not perfect…well jumping up on people, licking their toes this sort of thing.. Maybe that is why Mischa is sticking her tongue at Dixie when she is not looking…lol
Dixie on the other hand was very calm and not intrusive, if you payed attention to her you would be showered with kisses, otherwise she would just sit nicely and wait for the door to open. Well, if the door opened and there was another dog there the story changed a bit. Dixie never learned to be with other dogs. She was adopted from a Boston Terrier Rescue by Freddie and Dave as an adult, they tried for a while to help her socialize wit other dogs, but then came to conclusion that there is no point to force it. She never had to be with other dogs anyway, when their dads were away and she could not come, she would spend the time at her Grand mommy’s house having a little country vacation.
Over the years Dixie had a lot of health problems, she won the battle with cancer few years back, then had a problem here and there. Unfortunately what has happened recently left her fathers with no choice, but to let her go peacefully. They tried everything available, but Dixie was fading away, it was time to let he go. Her humans always put her first, and it was not difference this time.
These last few photos were taken just a week before she passed, she has slow down a bit by then, but she was always devoted to Dave and Freddie. Just see how she looks at them in this next photo.
This one is my favorite photo of the trio.
Dixie, I hope you are making friends in doggy heaven, or knowing you – You most likely sneaked your way into an angel’s quarters… That is ok Angels can use some love too! Until we meet again..
Please give your pet extra hugs today and everyday, we never know how long we have left and if we are gone before them their will sure miss us too…
What a lovely tribute. Miss Dixie was LOVED! Brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing.
Angie: Thank you SO much for the kind words and great memories. We still miss her SO much, but hopefully both of us being on trips this week will soften the pain of an empty condo, without her sad eyes and click-click-click.
Thank you again! Dave
Wow Angie…. what a beautiful tribute to Dixie. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but she sounds like she was an amazing dog…. but all dogs are amazing in my eyes!
What a beautiful tribute, Angie. You took some gorgeous photos of Dixie and they will always make me smile. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing!!! I have 4 Boston’s and they are absolutely wonderful. They are now my kids, the most lovable animal I have ever owned. Thanks for letting Dixie cross over the Rainbow Bridge peacefully. I know she will be waiting for all of us.

Thank you all for the nice comments!I truly miss Dixie and that was my way of dealing with her passing. I glad she touched so many people. She was so special.
This was a fabulous tribute to a wonderful, little dog. I am so sorry to hear of Dixie’s passing. Dave told me the sad news on Monday at the Westjet Vacations/Mexican Tourism seminar. I didn’t
go over & offer my condolences to you, Freddie as I figured I would start crying.

I am so very sorry about the loss of poor little Dixie. I do understand how you are feeling. We lost our beautiful Daisy, golden retriever on November 13th and we are still missing her dreadfully. Our dogs are very precious and give so much love and happiness. Their only fault, is that they don’t live long enouugh. Your lives will be empty for a while, but hopefully one day we and you will get another doggie. Really, in my opinion, life is nothing without a four legged friend!
Take care

I am very sorry for you. I know what you live.
Dixie is now with Grizzli, Copinette, Virgule and Panpan, 4 cats of me, in the cats and dogs heaven.
I will do hugs to Tobi and Puce in the memory of your dog
Nicole
So sorry for your loss of Dixie.
Your tribute to her shows how much she was loved by you both which in itself is priceless.
I lost 2 cats within a 4 month span which was heart wrenching. I have one 18 yr old kitty left and I know his days are numbered as well. This is a good reminder to savour the moments we have our precious darlings.
Sincerely,

Beautiful pictures of an adorable angel. I loved reading the stories and seeing the pictures of Dixie in Freddie’s newsletters – so sorry for your loss. I lost my kitty Tommy suddenly this past January I feel your pain.
I take comfort and hope Freddie and Dave can too in knowing that all of our babies are in heaven at peace playing and waiting patiently to greet us on the day that we “come home” too.
Tracey
Awesome! Thank You
Our family brood of 3 cats and 3 dogs has diminished over the last couple of years, to two dogs…each time a beloved pet died, it was heart wrenching, so I can appreciate the pain you’re both feeling at this moment. Time may take the edge off your loss, but it will never fill that hollow, empty spot in your hearts that Dixie has left.
Today is hard and tomorrow will be hard too…but relish the memories of the fun you had, and how, at the time, the click-click-click of those toe nails nearly drove you mad at 2am!!! Your girl would want you to rejoice in the happiness that she brought you!!!
Freddie & Dave
Words cannot express how my heart breaks for you right now. I felt the love you each had for Dixie whenever we saw each other, and I know your hearts are breaking too, and my thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of grief and mourning.
I do take comfort in knowing she is playing with friends gone before her over the rainbow bridge, and that one day when you are reunited she will be there to greet you with never ending kisses.
Angie – what a beautiful spread of photos, I never met Dixie, but this post gave me a deeper insight into who she is and how she loved and lived. Thank you for pouring your heart out here and sharing your memories and grief.
In love and compassion

I feel your loss, there are no words to say how sad I feel for you, Freddie and Dave.
Keep strong and remember all the good times.

My condolences on the loss of Dixie. A dog is not really a dog, but a much loved 4 legged family member.May the joy she brought to your lives remain in your hearts always.
Hi Freddie and Dave, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You will have to remember all the special times you shared together and hopefully each day will make it easier.
Best regards to you both!

So sorry to hear this Freddie and Dave. It’s always difficult when you lose someone so close to you that you shared those special moments with. Each day will get better but at least we know she’s in another good place too.
