So the day came! I did say I wanted to photograph the horses one day and I got what I wished for.. I have not ridden the horses for many, many years and just the smells took me back all these years and made me want to go back to the happy times of a teenage freedom.. Maybe one day I will buy a farm and have a horse or two. That would be nice! Well, it was supposed to be about Radish not me…
Radish is a mare in her twenties, semi retired and a happy horse. One problem I encounter was the fact the she was so interested in nibbling on the grass that she barely had her head up.
But as you see I managed to get some other shots too.
After photographing Radish, I ventured out to another place and got some other horses for my new portfolio.
I had such an adrenaline rush from working with the horses, such a gorgeous day!
The photos above would most likely not be popular with horse lovers, but I could not help myself and have some fun with it.
These animals were so beautiful… I had my feet stuck in mud, my heart pounding, as I did not know anything about these glorious horses and had to wonder about with my equipment in their territory with not escape..
Horses are smart, they must have felt that I was a little uneasy at times and decided to have some fun will me. When I started walking to the other side of the field, one of them began pushing me from the back. First gently and then more forcefully, moment later his friends joined in and rammed me into the fence.
The shot above is me trying to scare them away with my camera…it did not work…
I was trapped, my feet stuck in the mud, my body pressed to the wooden fence (with barb wire on it, ouch!), horse’s noses in my face. Pushing and pushing, my heart was ready to jump out of my chest.. The wired thing is that even when I was scared..it felt GOOD! I felt alive! For the first time in a while I felt like I am doing something exciting and loving it.
Not only I was pinned down by the horses, but the cows (who shared the field) also took an interest…
I do not know much about the cows, but I did not see any bulls in there..adventure continued until
Finally something made all the horses run towards the stables and leave me be, I have a suspicion that the stable boys had enough fun watching me scramble and called them in…
They all run away…
I know there is not much value in these photos, but it gets my blood pumping and I had to add it in!
I did not run out of there crying…I got back and gave it another try..just with a different guys and with the fence in between us!
I finished the day with a country drive, admiring the colors of the fall… I love life!
heehee… I LOVE the ones you took with the fisheye! They crack me up…
What great shots! I saw some horses out yesterday and commented to my husband that I wished I could give the owners my card! : )
LOVE LOVE LOVE that last fall shot… goodness!! So crazy insanely gorgeous!!!! I don’t do well in the cold but shots like that make me wish I lived somewhere other than Florida.
Beautiful!!!
The Horses are majestic, aren’t they?
(Maybe not the close up of the nose, hee hee)
And Those cows were really intetested – I can’t remember cows moving so quick for anything beyond food…
The last shot of fall just takes me back…
I knew that the distorted horse faces will be the controversy! Love it or hate it..
Thank you guys for your comments!
Hi Angie,
Actually, I love the first photo of Radish because it shows her attitude!
She is a sweet soul, but likes to kick up her heals and blow off a little steam sometimes. I like the ‘big nose’ shots too. Hartz, the paint is a big clown, so those shots suit him well.
However, I’m very concerned about you being pinned to the fence. I imagine it was exciting, but it was extremely dangerous! Horses are herd animals and although I doubt that any were trying to hurt you, they are huge animals and don’t understand how little and fragile we are. Please don’t go into a group again without a bit of help. If you get in touch with me, we can discuss how to behave in a herd. You know that I love all horses, but when I walk in the field, they need to understand that I’m the Alpha mare and they must respect my space. A horse that pushes you across the field is showing dominance, so currently you are way down the pecking order.
Talk to you soon,
Corinne
oh, well Corrine I guess the horses showed me what they think… I need to work on my body language, normally I can be very assertive, but with these guys I did not know their background so I was afraid to be too pushy! I guess not the best choice this time..
Thank you for all your comments, it is great to have people like you around to learn from!
I do believe you should add “landscape photographer” to your resume….that last shot is gorgeous…You are right, I will have to move to Vancouver if it all looks like that!
