Murphy and Rio Australian Shepherds

I was really excited when Jodi contacted me for a photo shoot! For her dog and her father’s dog both Aussies! Yay! I do love the dog that moves, swims and had all the colors! And between those two they got it covered. Initially the shoot (like many this time of the year!) was supposed to be a surprise for Rio’s dad, but he did not want to let his son out of his sight without knowing where he is going…oh well! The more the merrier! We met on the Richmond Dyke to do a short session to get a few portraits shot, but I could not resist the beauty of these creatures…

Murphy loves to talk and was not shy with me at all, when it comes to telling me how hes feels however posting for the camera it is a different story. He is 6 years old and very playful. Rio on the other side is 8 years old and a bit more mellow fellow, but he does not particularly like all the dogs around..oh, well I get it I feel like biting some people sometimes..don’t you?

Both dog spend time together every day, when Jodi goes to work Murphy goes to Daddy Daycare..what a life, oh wait they also have a house on one of the Islands and that is where the doggies spend their summers and holidays… Dogs life huh?

I have to say it over and over again, but in my job I meet the nicest people possible. I feels so good being appreciated and valued. I truly hoe that Jodi and her father will be happy with the outcome of their session. Thank you so much for trusting me with your precious babies!

Keely and Quinn Kerri Blue Terriers

When photographing dogs in their natural environment we sometimes forget to consider all the possibilities…like the  times when let the dog off leash and they just take off..lol

The truth is that neither Quinn or Keely cared much for being in the photos and avoided eye contact at all times. Normally that is not much of the challenge, we let the dogs roam freely and I put on my  70 -200mm lens and still get some great close ups without the dogs knowing. But this time I did not plan well and we did not have an option for safe off leash adventure.

the session started and ended with some cooperation from Quinn and Keely, but in between their mom have to do a bit of chasing ..

The truth is that I chose to photograph dogs because I love the challenge and I was not upset in any way by the lack of cooperation, I tried my best to get a few shots for their mom and keep the dogs happy and stress free. So Quinn and Keely I think you are wonderful and have an adventurous spirits!

Thank you Nancy for trusting me with your dogs! As always I  had fun!

Sasha – Portuguese Water Dog

Since president Obama has one there are the chances that you know how the Portuguese Water Dog looks like…actually the dog has so many different looks…We ventured out to Iona Beach to try to utilize the water, the sand and the grass..

Here is Sasha in the first photo I took of her, when she got out of the car nicely groomed, puffy and shinny…

Isn’t she gorgeous? I took a couple of shots on the pier and we decided to move to the beach…and Sasha decided to show me what it means to be a WATER dog…

Here is the problem…the tide was out and instead of the ocean there was a gooey black mess….Next change of venue the river for a clean up…

The white in her coat started to came back, it is actually quite amazing that her coat completely changes when it hits the water.

Some activities were in order to dry out… I have to say that her parents were pretty cool about it. Dogs will be dogs and thee is nothing you can do!

Sasha enjoyed some exercise, it was a weird one for her…She was quite confused, “ok, so I am outside…my leash is off and they keep on calling me ..making to run here and there.. stop and look….. oh the hell with it I am here to run! But wait they have treats…so I will go back just for one..”

She dried out pretty good, I love how her cat changes colors! Even puppies get pooped after they work with me..by the end of the session we have quite call and tired girl..

Due to low tide and the elements in the water we missed out on the beach shoot, but I am hoping that the parents will be happy in spite of this.

Till next time!
