Modern Dog Editorial

If you subscribe to The Modern Dog Magazine, you mostly likely have a copy of their Spring Issue in your hands, if not you can pick it up on magazine stand pretty soon. In this issue you can read lots of interesting stories and look at some photos. Why am I bring it it up? Well, if you look at page 8 you can see my photo and a bio note. Pages 38-42 have an article written by Patricia Komar and all the photos are taken by yours truly.

I have to say I am pretty excited about it, I really enjoy editorial work. It is quite different from a studio shots. I do not mind getting dirty and cold, I think I prefer it to the clean and bright studio work. I do like the challenge and fresh air.

Patrick (German Shepherd mix)and Benard (German Shepherd)

Patrick and Benard are living together since last fall, however being both in their senior years their relationship is ..well complicated? I think the picture below describes it pretty well..

This time the weather did not have mercy on me and I had to shoot with the sun blasting from the sky..we met on the beach and there is not shade to escape to. I had to make it work somehow. We met early in the morning (my  attempt to use the softer light!) in Richmond. From what the ladies told me about the dogs I thought the shoot might be little challenging. Benard (called BEErnard by his new moms), who is about 12 came from the farm, where he was kept on the chain for most of his life and since he has been in his new home just a few months he still is not sure what to do off leash.

Bernard is so lovable and I am so happy for him that he has found great people to take care of him in his golden years. He still got it and is able to get Patrick off his feet..

Patrick also came from a Surrey Animal Shelter, but as a puppy( 9 years ago). He is quite well trained, he loves to run and sniff, especially the food.

Dogs had a lot of fun playing in the water together..

We could not get them to sit next to each other. I was determined to get the”portrait shot”. When they decided to comply for a moment the sun was blasting from the side and it was impossible to get them to turn towards it. Smart animals, who wants to stare at the sun?

I will be seeing those guys pretty soon again, since I have another session with their “brother” Oliver, who was run over by a truck as a puppy and it not able to leave his yard as he does not walk much.

Both moms Sheila and Leila, apart from having these fantastic pooches, are helping dogs and cats for many years now. They foster the strays until they find a permanent home. They are truly amazing ladies!

Please support your local animal organizations, they relay on donations and volunteers.

I cannot believe I forgot my lick flick!

Dog Wedding

I always said the I do not do weddings.. well never say never, when it comes to photographing pooches I rarely say no. I am a “pet photographer” or “dog photographer” or a photographer that loves dogs and works with them etc…all of the above are my reasons for taking the wedding photos, but still a firm no to the human weddings!

Anyway we shall find out about the happy couple Perdo (Chihuahua)  and Harley Lyn (Dachshund). They met this summer at he Playful Puppy Palace; did not like each other at the first glance but with time the relationship developed and now they spend every moment together.groom-and-bride-web

I have to say that this was the most challenging shoot I ever had to do, the place was packed. Poor dogs tried to navigate between the feet and paws of others..In all that commotion there was a crazy woman (yours truly). I was following them everywhere sticking my lens into their noses and blinding them with the flash. Lisa (Playful Puppy Palace owner) and her husband Khris spared no expense to make the wedding as glamorous as possible.. if you ever been to the PPP you would know, the name Palace is there for a reason.. There was a wedding cake, the weeding arch, take away doggy bags with treats, flowers, hearts. In place of the rings the dogs received silver necklaces to exchange..

Wedding cake done by Big Dog Little Dog Bakery.

Lots of people showed up to see the dogs tie the knot, Global TV and the local papers were there too. Pedro and Harley Lyn tried to get some play time before the wedding..

And then was the time to get dressed up and take the vows..

And then there was a cake..
