Yappy Howl’een Party at Puppy Palace

So, the Off Leash Photography, Playful Puppy Palace and Lostnhound teamed up to help Little Paws Rescue and party like is was … well you can imagine. Please enjoy the photos and keep in mind that the were taken in the chaos…

I have to say that photographing over 40 dogs, all in costumes presented quite a challenge. First the animals did not want to be dressed up and then had better things to do than pose for the portrait. I tried my best is a span of two and a half hours to do the best I can.. well judge for yourself.

If you thinking of adopting the small dog, give one a chance, there are a lot of abused animals that are waiting for the loving homes. And they are adorable!

If you are wondering… the leaves that are in the background were picked up by me and my two little  helpers Jaden and Isabella. I have to say that the people who’s gardens we ransacked were very happy about it..

LOSTNHOUND registration day

So, my friend Glenn decided to help people and dogs by creating a new website, where people can register their dogs and post their photo in an event that the dogs becomes lost.

He was hanging out in the park spreading the word about his site LOSTnHOUND and I decided to help, since dog owners do not carry pictures to the dog park I did the snap shots while he got the info. we have lots and lots of dogs.

We had so many beautiful dogs and so many great people! There was only one dog fight and there are no pictures…or irony just yesterday I go certified in Pet First Aid from St. Johns Ambulance and I was scared that I will have to put my training to the test today.. but fortunately there was not injuries. Some bruised egos maybe, but this is more of the human domain..

What a great fall day in Vancouver! To be more specific in New Westminster’s Hume Park and if you have not taken your dog there yet, give it a try. The Off Leash area offers plenty room to run and play.

A session with 6 dogs! What a day

Well, so it was supposed to be a three dog session, but I am a sucker and wanted to include the puppies… ended up with one yard and six dogs. The puppies were, as expected, not interested in posing or staying in one place. Even the basket we try to use was no problem to get out of.. Eventually I gave up on puppies and we took the big dogs to the off-leash park, but I did came back next week to work with the puppies only since they all are going away to the new homes on Sunday :( and I might not get the chance to see them grow bigger. So in this blog post two sessions are  combined into one. I am no super woman, just a determined photographer that does everything to make the client happy.

[caption id="attachment_143" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="The proud parents Mocha and Freddie"]The proud parents Mocha and Freddie[/caption]

Ok, so the shot below took forever to achieve, it took an hour and a half to get the puppies tired enough to stay in one place.

[caption id="attachment_260" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="The babies"]The babies[/caption]

Another interesting thing about photographing the puppies, they did not react to the usual sounds that get the grown ups looking. I had to develop all new repertoire of funny sounds to get their attention. Another thing about them the learned so fast and did not react to the sound they heard before.

[caption id="attachment_150" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="Mocha, Freddie and Pumpkin"]Mocha, Freddie and Pumpkin[/caption]

We could not get the dogs to stay together for the photo, so we used the leashes to keep them in position. The difficult thing with photographing the dogs of different colors next to each other is to get a good exposure so all the details are visible and the dark dog does not become the black blob.

[caption id="attachment_109" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="Freddie with the toy"]Freddie with the toy[/caption]

Freddie the Havanese Dog is such a gentle soul and he never gets to keep the toy, Mocha, the poodle, has an upper hand and she is always the one with the toy in her mouth. Holly, the owner was really happy that we managed to get Freddie running away with toy in his mouth.

[caption id="attachment_131" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="Pumpkin puzzled after hearing me meow like an idiot"]Pumpkin puzzled after hearing me meow like an idiot[/caption]

I just love these eyes!

[caption id="attachment_119" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="Freddie"]Freddie[/caption] [caption id="attachment_114" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="Mocha"]Mocha[/caption] [caption id="attachment_250" align="alignnone" width="800" caption="The puppies"]The puppies[/caption]

Fall is the pumpkin season and I found out that can keep the puppies in they tracks.. and interested at lest until the eat the stem plus it makes it for a nice addition to the photograph.

Till next time! Happy Fall! Enjoy your pumpkins!
