Golden Retreiver – Lauer

Another rainy day in Vancouver, it seems like this winter is never going to end.  Even Lauer, 9 year old Golden Retriever, was cold during the shoot. We met at Spanish Bank in Vancouver for our dog photography session and  we made the best use we could of couple of hours’ break from the rain.

Lauer, named after Mat Lauer if you wondering,  is a very active dog, you would have never guessed the she is 9. She is in a great shape, regular walks with Walks n wags help a lot to keep her in a top notch condition.

Lauer and her mom worked so well with me. I should probably add that Lauer’s mom is a fantastic photographer herself. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the email from her stating that she wanted to hire me to take pictures of her beloved dog. I thought to myself why? Well, for the same reason I would hire a maternity photographer to take pictures of me if I was pregnant, we all do what we do best and I have gone to the dogs!

This toy did not last the whole session, but I liked it so much I wanted to sneak the picture in..

Also it took no time before Lauer was in the water..

Looks like fun, but pretty cold, even for a dog!

Lauer was shivering a bit when she came out of the water and her mom was thinking of taking her jacket off to warm her up, so sweet! But instead we send her running and jumping on the beach.

Oh, man she is a fast one! I was quite a challenge to time the photos right.

It is quite amazing how different she looks wet and dry..

As always, wonderful time.  What can I say I do have the best job in the world, for me anyway.. I get licked, pushed, dripped on, wet tail in the face and I love all of it. By the way if you ever decide to run backwards on the beach full of rocks you are going to have a very sore bum, trust me! I cannot even blame the dog, all me… not using my brain. The only explanation of this temporary insanity I can offer is the fact that I get into the zone when I photograph and I truly forget about humans around me, myself painfully included!

Spring please! Soon!

Another piece of news I am going to be away from mid May till end of June 2009.

Keriann - Angie, these pictures are great!! My favorites are the first and the very last one. She reminds me of my lab…super fast and loves the water no matter how cold. Your pictures just get better and better. Hope you are well!

Hilary Stephens - Angie, These photos of Lauer are AMAZING. As Lauer’s mum, I’m thrilled to have these photos and I love the story you tell along with the photos! I’m delighted, touched, thrilled with all the photos – I even had tears in my eyes when I came to the one with her on the log, head down (one of my favourites and I love all of them!). As a photographer myself, I know what goes into getting amazing shots like this and it’s talent, intuition, alot of hard work and passion for what you do. I was there when Angie was taking the shots and she’s fabulous – knows EXACTLY what to do and when to take the photos. Thank you, thank you. Hilary

Hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy your family!

angie - Thank you, as always I enjoy all the comments and I have to tell you that reaction of Hilary (Lauer’s mom) put the tears into my eyes. I do strive for perfection and put all my heart and skills into my photography and I am over the moon when I am able to exceed the clients expectation.
I hope to do it many more times over and over. Thank you all for the fantastic comments I read them and taken them to heart.

Jamie - Oh Angie these are fantastic! I feel as if I was there with you. I can practically smell the beach and touch Lauer’s wet fur. I can totally see why Lauer’s mom loves these so much. They are awesome! Great job as always. Oh, and I too once fell backwards on my bum while running backwards down a beach. Unfortunately for me it was summer and in front of a crowd of sunbathers. ha! Hope your rear heals nicely. 🙂

    Nichole - Angie,

I just LOVE this shoot – something about the classic ideas of Golden + Beach makes for the most rich photography! I super-uber duper love the foggy background – reminds me of home… Although technically I guess you’re not that far away 😉 LOVE the action shots, you’re right, they are tricky to time. And I know what you mean about sore body parts… Haha it’s amazing how everything bu the dog sort of vanishes eh?

    Two thumbs up!

    Bev - Angie
I love this session! I really love that last “wet dog” series. Really beautiful work. Congrats on a great session.

Kanji - I am still debating with myself what kind of dog I am going to have. A Golden Retreiver is one option like Lauer but still interested in Portuguese Water Dog. Yes, I love to see dogs swimming and wet.
